Sizdah Bedar, is a very special Persian celebratio Sizdah Bedar, is a very special Persian celebration held annually on the 13th day of the Nowruz (Persian New Year). It is customary to pack a picnic lunch and head outdoors to a park or nature reserve with friends and family.

Quince are an ancient autumn fruit which grow on small trees, quite similar to apple trees. The fruit is irregular in shape and has a hard, astringent, almost inedible flesh when raw, but once cooked changes to a beautiful, pink colour with an amazing perfume.

Can't wait to make Tangy Quince & Lamb Stew (Khoroshteh Beh). The recipe can be found on page 116 in the Jewels of Persia cookbook.
